Call for Submissions

As part of our We Are Ready for Freedom of Expression campaign, PEN American Center is seeking short descriptive narratives and essays by Chinese writers for publication on our website.

We are especially interested in 500–1,000-word pieces such as:

Vignettes and scenes of contemporary life in the People’s Republic of China
Narratives recounting personal experiences with censorship or other freedom of expression or human rights issues
Portraits of ordinary people who are doing interesting, innovative, or extraordinary things

Please send submissions in Chinese or English to weareready@pen.org. Include your name and contact information, along with a brief description of yourself if you wish.

Note: we will consider publishing pieces anonymously if you so request.
