One New York Delegate Says the Democratic National Convention Is Bigger Than Obama

What Americans must realize is that the DNC is “bigger than Obama,” said New York State Senator Eric Adams, a Democrat and delegate pledged to Obama.

His name seems to be everywhere in the news media and on everyone’s lips. The ubiquitous candidate of change has reinvigorated the presidential election process and is making many Americans true believers in Democracy. The excitement cannot be denied no matter how the Republicans (or their supplicants like Fox News) lie and frabricate.

The National Democratic Party has mobilized myriads of voters in close-to record numbers. The American University’s Center for the Study of the American Electorate published a report with details of voter turnouts during the primaries, http://online.wsj.com/public/resources/documents/primaryturnoutmay2008.pdf.

So, with the Democratic National Convention just a few days away, how much change should Americans begin to anticipate? Can one man change a country like this one with its domestic fissures and international brouhahas? What Americans must realize is that the DNC is “bigger than Obama,” said New York State Senator Eric Adams, a Democrat and delegate pledged to Obama. The New York State senator presides over the 20th district in Brooklyn, New York. According to Adams, this year’s DNC is about starting the “process of planting the seeds for the future Obamas.”

Regardless who wins the presidential race, change must come about. “Bush and crew,” as Adams dubbed the current presidential administration, have lost touch with the American people. As a result, the plights of Americans are not felt by the president who jokes about Wall Street’s “hangover,” referring to the national economic crisis.. The failure of the current presidential administration is the reason why the DNC must be bigger than Obama. As a united front the Democratic Party can use the DNC as a platform to bring about the change that is needed, he said.

Despite the tremendous diversity of the country, “common denominators” still exist, said Adams: “I have million dollar homes and I have public housing. This district personifies diversity.” Adams’ district covers parts of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Flatbush, Boro Park, Crown Heights, Prospect Heights, Sunset Park and Windsor Terrace. “The economy is number one on the minds of New Yorkers,” said Adams when asked what problems constituents in his district face.

When a president has the courage to joke about a national housing crisis, but not the courage to admit to his mistakes and misdeeds and bring home America’s troops to keep them from dying in an unwarranted war: THERE IS A NEED FOR CHANGE.

And according to Adams, Obama is encouraging this country to move in the right direction to achieve this change even though he hasn’t been elected yet. If elected, will he be able to transition from encouragement to accomplishment?
