International Women's Day

International Women’s Day was celebrated around the globe on March 08, 2008. Founded by an American Socialist organization in 1909 after 15,000 women had marched in New York City the year before, demanding shorter hours, better pay and voting rights. The first International Women’s Day took place in 1911, gaining much momentum over the years. Some women receive gifts and tokens of affection, others take to the streets to demand more freedom, and to raise a voice for those who have none. Coming together worldwide to celebrate the achievements of women strengthens and empowers, not only women but humankind.
