Honoring César Chávez

César Chávez Day (observed on March 31 this year) is a state holiday in California. The day is intended to promote service to the community in honor of Chavez’s life and work. Born in Yuma, Arizona, he was an American farm worker of Mexican descent, labor leader, and civil rights activist. He co-founded the National Farm Workers Association, which later became the United Farm Workers. His work led to numerous improvements for union laborers. He is hailed as one of the greatest American civil rights leaders.

  1. Very touching. He was a great man, and you do him justice with this rememberance.
