Quitovac, Mexico––From the grounds of Quitovac’s only school, José Piñuela II, tribal member of the Tohono O’odham Nation, points towards the site of the proposed CEGIR medical waste dump, the foot of a mountain range 12.9 miles to the south. The Tohono O’odham people, whose territory spans the Mexican-U.S. border, rallied Saturday, March 31, to voice their opposition to the building of the CEGIR’s new waste facility on their land.
