Where Meat Comes From

Where Meat Comes From by Jan Egil Kristiansen.

At the Greenland Nights culture festival, Flateyri, northwest Iceland, a seal was killed – as food often is – and eaten.

It tasted somewhere between whale and beef. It’s recommended as a gentle introduction to marine mammals. (Beware, in some cultures and religions, seal is haram.)

Notice the girl wielding the ulo – the traditional woman’s knife.

On the Red List of Threatened Species, this seal is: Lower risk/Least concern

Flateyri, Iceland.
