Police Women in Liberia

Police Women in Liberia by Christopher Herwig.

Vera Manly, Deputy Commandant of Training – in the Police force for 16 years – sees men as her counterparts and encourages new female recruits to be strong and resilient. The President of Liberia encourages women who are highschool dropouts to get an education through the new incentive program run by the Ministery of Gender and UNMIL. Their goal is to increase the enrollment of women police to 20 percent (currently around 6 percent).

Starting before dawn, young liberian men and women attending the Polcie Academy in Monrovia perform their morning excercises before breakfeast. All recruits are treated the same in training.
