Blues musician Ron Thompson played a typically kinetic show April 15, 2006 in Visalia at the Le Chai Wine Lounge. San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has declared Sept. 5, 2007 as Ron Thompson Day in San Francisco. The longtime bluesman spent seven years as John Lee Hooker’s band leader and has recorded or performed with legends like Fleetwood Mac, Chris Isaak, Carlos Santana, Bonnie Raitt, Elvin Bishop, Bill Medley, Huey Lewis, Dr. John, songwriter Bobby Womak, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robert Cray Band, Z.Z. Top, Percy Mayfield, Etta James, B.B. King, and Jimmy Reed.
