Monks Protesting in Burma

Monks Protesting in Burma

Burma’s junta slapped dusk-till-dawn curfews on the country’s two largest cities late Tuesday after Buddhist monks defied warnings of a crackdown and led 100,000 people in another day of mass protests.

For the first time since protests began on Aug. 19, the government began to issue warnings and to move truckloads of soldiers into positions in Yangon, the largest city and former capital.

During the marches, some of the monks reportedly carried banners summarizing the grievances of the public: “Sufficiency in food, clothing and shelter, national reconciliation, freedom for all political prisoners.” Source: AFR

  2. The Burmese people caught my attention years ago. I have been watching this develop. I am an American who wanted to visit this land until I learned it was under military control. I will keep my focus on this land and its people so long as they walk the path of peace – I will not turn aside from them.
