Swinging Rope, Rusted Iron by Gary Dwight Miller. Vietnamese locals in the Mo Cay District, Ben Tre Province, Viet Nam, cross a swinging bridge made of rope and iron. The bridge spans the Hoa Loe Commune, over a tributary to the Song Ham Luong River, which eventually empties into the East Sea. Ben Tre in the Mekong Delta region is famous for its fruit orchards and is considered by Vietnamese as the “coconut island”. Today 9/26 a section of a Japanese-funded bridge being built in Can Tho city in southern Vietnam collapsed, killing up to 60 workers and injuring about 100 in the country’s worst such disaster. The cause of the collapse was not immediately known, but Vietnam TV reported that rains may have softened the foundation. Source: Reuters Ben Tre, Vietnam.
