Southland Digest
The Southland Digest is a weekly summary of highlights gleaned from a myriad of ethnic press based in Southern California, arguably the largest ethnic media market in the country. The aim is to provide a glimpse of the lives, the conversations, and the perspectives of this multicultural population vis a vis national, state, and local issues. Occasionally the writer might venture beyond the borders of SoCal to other territories and topics. The digest is produced by NAM Southern California Director Julian Do.
[ filed under: california foreign-policy ] “America is now ready for a female or minority president, but not for a Hilary or Barack!” writes Romy Monteyro in the Op-Ed page of the Philippine Mabuhay News. Clinton, though a female candidate, is viewed by many as the Democratic standard bearer. Obama is articulate and visionary but a lackluster in the experience and accomplishment department. Besides having solid proposals to solve domestic issues, a presidential candidate must show credible leadership to lead the world and deal with rogue nations. We’re living in a dangerous time. Monteyro believes John McCain, though 72, can be a new Ronald Reagan who made foreign policy (then anti communism) a cornerstone of his platform. McCain could win the White House with a strong position on the war in Iraq. your opinion is so off. im from SD & am think you and your thought is so “strange” im surprised you posted it. are you from chula vista or mira mesa? why do you think you and your people even matter to the conservatives? history shows that they want high end , big money people to back them. being from your community, does it really include you? siding with rich folks may seem to make you relevant, but history shows they could care less about you or your community’s issues. ronald reagan was one of the worst presidents in our nations history, & for you to even mention him shows what kind of shallow thinking you have. in future posts please show some bit of smarts & stop being lead by the nose. do some research & see who made it even possible for your community to come to this country in the first place? it was fdr a democrat. show some appreciation. study & learn your own history before making non-sensical comments.
