YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
[ filed under: politics spirituality ] Official PARTICIPANT in the first ever YOUTH MEDIA BLOG-A-THON. I have to say being a Generation Y youngster, I’m kind of over this whole election thing. It’s taking too long. I don’t have anything else to say or feel on the issue. I want Barack to win and for all the other candidates to go home and fly their respective kites. I voted a couple weeks ago and Barack lost in my state anyway. Plus, American Idol and Lost have started back up, so I feel it is my true civic duty to watch and discuss those shows with others. But I suppose I can squeeze out one more thought: I saw a blog that likened Obama to the messiah. Being a young Christian man, I can say it was a bit vexing. I hate how someone always has to be someone else in the media – especially when that someone is black. Kobe is Mike, Colin Powel is Uncle Tom and Obama is Jesus. It’s ridiculous. I’ve been to Barack Obama rally and have seen the looks on the faces of his supporters, and yeah – it’s pretty captivating. But why can’t it just be left at that with out comparing him to one of the biggest religious figures ever? I can see the MLK references and the JFK references, even the Cosby references, and – even though I’m a fan – Jesus is a bit too far. |
