Boston Progress Radio has a great blog on voting and immigration. Here’s the excerpt:

I have often wondered why the right to vote should be restricted to American citizens. Why shouldn’t immigrants (legal or illegal) be allowed to vote? As a permanent resident, I had the privilege of paying state, local, and federal taxes, I had the privilege of registering with the Selective Services System so that I could defend and fight for this country, and I had the privilege of subjecting myself to a physical examination just to prove my worthiness.

I suppose I’m making at least two points here: 1) The rules governing naturalization (I really despise that word) are pretty arbitrary here and anywhere else. 2) Many immigrants contribute in productive ways to this society. They should be allowed to make choices that help them shape the place they have chosen to call home.

  1. A vote for Obakma could well be the begining of the downfall of America. His honesty and integrity are questionable, and Ms Obama only became proud of her country when she could become Mammy Obammy. Obammywa is unqualified and experienced and talks big but he would be a big embarrassment as leader of the free world. Too funny!

  2. Illegal people can not vote because they are criminals and breaking Unites States Law. Its pretty simple, if you want to vote here fill out the forms to become a citizen. Illegal Immigration is very unfair to those who actually do it the right way.
You second point about illegal immigrants contributing to society: they use our hospitals free and schools free, they also use our roads and numerous other things for free. If they could vote I am assuming they would vote themselves a lot of free things at mine and your expense.

Now I agree with you on this:
LEGAL immigrants should be able to vote because they pay taxes OR they should not have to pay taxes at all.
    Also
US citizens too young to vote should not pay taxes for the same reason.
Taxing people who can not vote is “taxation without representation” look it up.
I believe Ron Paul is the only candidate running that believes anyone that can not vote should not be subject to tax at the federal level, at least.
