YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
[ filed under: food philosophy ] If you eat at McDonalds, chances are you aren’t there for the atmosphere. If you’re anything like me, you might be a fan of the French fries and milkshakes. I would go to McDonalds with my dad before we went to the basketball game at Kezar stadium in San Francisco. I especially loved the little toys I got in my Happy Meal. I didn’t care about the seats, the floor, or anything else in the restaurant. They could have had a beanstalk coming out of the ground and I would have been happy. Normally the words Feng Shui and McDonalds in the same sentence would sound like a romantic comedy. But the creators of McDonalds are dead serious on making their restaurant more appealing and comfortable to customers and get them to sit, eat, and linger a little longer. The idea of fast food doesn’t register as: kick back! Relax! Order another burger! Unless we’re talking gourmet food at McDonald’s and drinking my soda out of a wine glass I can’t imagine hanging around like I were at a typical restaurant. I go there to get cure my craving for French fries – not to pass the time! Even with the idea of taking out the plastic seats and focuses on the earth, water, fire, metal and wood – it seems like a long shot to chance a image that has been around for longer than I’ve been alive. The founders of McDonalds should consider getting a healthier menu up and running instead of trying to turn their restaurants into a toned down version of Captain Planet. |
