YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
[ filed under: politics ] The big winners coming out of last night were John McCain and Hillary Clinton, a big win for the both hopefuls, for McCain it sealed the Republican nomination so he can now focuse on strategy and fundraising for November. On the Democratic side, Hillary’s win means that this is still far from over and that the Clintons can never be counted out. Ever. One thing about last night’s vote that did hit me in a very sorrow filled way. I won’t be seeing any more of Mike Huckabee. I won’t see him on Jay Leno playing bass or on the Tyra Show talking about his miraculous weight loss. Good ol’ Mike had a way of keeping me interested. I hope he doesn’t just fade into the background like most losers in the race. He will never be President but his popularity stock is at an all time high! The possibilities of a future career are endless. Can you say talk show host? How great would that be “Late Night With Mike” he could have celebrities sit on a couch and talk movies and music and during the break he could play some sweet lead base with the band. Man, that would be great. I can’t bring myself to let go; I didn’t want him to win but he seemed like a cool guy so why not keep him around? As you can tell probably I’ve allowed myself to get pretty wrapped up in this election, more so than I have with sports. I’ve watched way more election coverage than basketball games this season, which for a devout Boston Celtics fan is saying a lot. It is difficult to turn on the TV and see one of my favorite teams losing, but it sucks in a hole different way. You threw your support behind a candidate and they do not come out the victor. When I saw that Obama lost in three of the four state primaries I felt as though America had betrayed me personally. How could they do that to me? After all this time. And then I thought about it, a lot of people believe in Clinton for good reasons. She seems to want to help the country just as much as Obama does. They have similar stances on a lot of the issues. I’ve been known to say that if Obama does not come out with the Dem’s nomination that I will not vote come November. I thought I’d just be a sour sport and maybe go see a Will Smith movie on that day. But now as I see more and more that the things like instating a universal health care system, protecting a woman’s right to choose and creating more jobs are things that are really important to me and seem equally important to both Hillary and Obama. Though it is disheartening to see Obama lose, I can now understand that it is bigger than just one person. I very much want to see Obama win, but more than that, I want to see whoever does win keep their word to do everything in their power to better the lives of us common folk. |
