YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
Hillary Clinton loses 50 Cent’s support The rapper spoke to Time magazine last year to give his support to the New York senator. Recently, 50 Cent told MTV news that Obama’s speech on race is what finally made him decide to support Sen. Barack Obama. First thing I want to know is why is 50 Cent talking to TIME magazine? How hard pressed was TIME for political commentators that they had to call on Fifdy? What, was Shug Knight busy? Having 50’s support doesn’t help Obama anymore then having his own flavor of Ben and Jerry’s ice cream does. But if 50 does sway any voters to Obama’s side, it will not be because 50 Fifty knows Obama’s stance on important issues and has an eloquent way of cultivating like-minded individuals to Obama’s side. But because they are afraid of being shot—which is a legitimate fear! Do what 50-cent says – or else! 13-year-old charged for pimping out young girls A 13-year-old middle school-er is facing charges of bringing young girls to a club to serve as prostitutes. The last thing America needs is a girl with the appeal of Hannah Montana, and the pimping skills of Snoop Dog. No one is safe! I’m sure a lot of people were surprised at this story – me, not so much. Given the current state of entertainment and news it is no surprise to me that kids are getting into the flesh game earlier and earlier. It takes more than music and movies to make someone want to sell their bodies or make their friends sell their bodies. But things like the NY governor’s call girl getting a record deal and posing for Playboy can’t be doing the best at dissuading the youth from prostitution. Many big city graduation rates below 50% Several of the largest high schools in the United States have graduation rates lower than 50%. I wonder if these kids aren’t graduating – what are they doing? They can’t all be radio hosts, like yours truly . Maybe they are filling out the workforce, taking important jobs at grocery stores or fast food joints. Someone has to do it, right? And it is no surprise to me that kids in urban areas don’t graduate as much, we teach youngsters to follow their hearts and follow the money. There ain’t no love or cash in urban schools, so their finding the money else where. 16-year-old Becomes Pen-Spinning King If this act of spinning pens goes international, and I have to watch six hours of it between sports centers on ESPN—I’m gonna lose it. We already have enough questionable sports taking up valuable time on our sports channels. Like log chopping or fishing. I’m sure if you’re on YouTube, watching someone spin a pen finger to finger is great. Don’t get me wrong. But I’d much rather watch the big blond German from the strong man competition throw a thousand pound tire 6 and a half yards. Now that’s a sport! —Donny Lumpkins |
