Laughing at 'Sarah'

This weekend I saw Forgetting Sarah Marshall. You know, that movie with the huge billboard that look like they were written in sharpie. “I’m so over you Sarah Marshall.” “You do look fat in those jeans Sarah marshall,” Yeah, that one.

Kristen Bell/Sarah is on a TV show that Peter writer/star Jason Segel writes the music for. After being dumped by Sarah, Peter decides to go to Hawaii to get his mind off of her only to find when he gets there, that none other than Sarah Marshall with her new boyfriend Aldous Snow—a weird British singer—played by Russell Brand. Still upset about the break up, Peter meets a hotel worker Rachel played by Mila Kunis who takes his mind off of Sarah Marshall and becomes Peters’ new love interest.

In the previews, it boasts from the same guys that brought you 40-year-old Virgin and Super Bad, which makes sense because the movie is in the same vain: sex, and humor with a heart. Though following the boy meets girl, boy gets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back at the end archetype of romantic comedies it does offer some original laughs. There’s a scene where Peter-Jason Segel is singing to Rachel/Mila Kunis character at a restaurant in a painfully awkward Dracula voice that you can’t help to laugh and cringe simultaneously.

This movie offers a young perspective on love and relationships in a way that a lot of people can relate to. With equal parts of slapstick humor, cheesiness and heart—I have to say I really liked it and would recommend it to someone else. You just have to remember don’t expect Atonement, expect to laugh, expect full frontal nudity (not the good kind) but most of all expect to have a good time.
