YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
[ filed under: youth literature ] My love of fictional vampires peaked when I read Anne Rice’s Interview with the Vampire in high school. The movie didn’t hurt my semi-obsession either. Later on, I was drawn into the world of magic and wizardry by way of the seven Harry Potter books. After becoming an official ‘Pot’ head, the end of the series felt like a breakup of a relationship I had invested a large amount of time in. Before the final book rolled off the presses I already started to ponder what book and/or series I could throw myself into next. Unfortunately, nothing sparked my interest. I always walk past the teen book section at Borders and feel a little sad that none of the books leapt off the shelf trying to get my attention, especially because I used to be a teen book addict. The other week a friend of mine gave me the book Twilight and told me to read it so we could watch the movie version when it debuted later this year. I had already heard about the book through other friends. One friend finished it in one night, and the other had purchased it for her summer plane trip to Hawaii. After reading the first installment of the popular teen book series The Cliché I swore off all forms of young teen girl related literature. I managed to read the book in one day and I swear by that night I felt dizzy and I think a few of my brain cells melted. But with the large popularity growing over the Twilight franchise laced in fantasy, I can’t help but dip my toe into the whirlpool hype, if not only for the first installment. Even though my initial reaction is to hide under a rock when it comes to these types of books, I’m intrigued enough to keep reading. I don’t know if Twilight will fill the Harry Potter void with the mystical vampire-ish plot, but I’ll give it a shot. Either way, expect another blog in the near future. comments |

Dear God don’t do it.
Well, okay I take that back, read the next two, and then stop there. They’re ridiculous but readable.
Heed my advice, if you don’t want to have to gouge your eyes out. Otherwise… good luck?
