On August 5th two members of the YO! team- Erricka X and I- had the pleasure to attend Wild 94.9’s exclusive and intimate performance with Estelle at Club Envy in the city. The “happy hour” performance which ran from 5 pm to 7, attracted fans eager to leave their 9-5’s just in time to see the British Hip Hop/R&B, rapper/ songstress perform cuts from her new album “Shine”.

Although certain corners of club reeked of an odor reminiscent to a mix between hot garbage and vinegar, all in all it was a good show. Estelle, whose hit “American Boy” has been in heavy rotation all across the country, has not been jaded by Hollywood, yet. In between songs, she would tell personal anecdotes of ex-boyfriends caught cheating, gaining self-esteem through the purchase of a push-up bra, to still being ‘broke’ after translating her record deal, which was paid in U.S. dollars over British pounds ( a downgrade).

After her four song set, she humbly thanked the audience and left the stage, where satisfied fanswere left to go about the rest of their evening. When I got home, I purchased the album, a definite investment. Good things are to come to Ms. Estelle in the future.
