Harry Potter’s Invisibility Cloak Becomes Reality

At some point I’m sure we’ve all dreamed of being able to suddenly become invisible. Hide away from the world by a snap of the finger. Whether it because you just embarrassed yourself in front of your entire 8th grade class by accidentally releasing a loud burst of butt gas, you suddenly realized you slept with your significant others’ roommate, or if only because you’re the non-social type.

But now, after years of reading about Harry Potter and his Invisibility Cloak – the dream is becoming a reality.

Believe it or not, scientists up in Washington think they are on the verge of discovering a material that could indeed make an object invisible.

Apparently the future material would be able to reflect light away, which would then cast an object as invisible to the eye.

At first I was excited about this tidbit of news. And then I watched the first X-Files movie and my paranoia and my ‘worst case scenario’ switch got flipped.

In a time where every other country seems to hate one another, creating the possibility to make projectile objects undetectable to the human eye is a little unnerving.

“Oh, hey did you see that bomb that hit that one building over there?”
“Nah! I didn’t, cuz it was invisible!”

On a positive note, an invisibility cloak-like material could help for a lot of things, like avoiding that whole annoying moment when someone gets up in the middle of a movie during a pivotal moment and their giant head blocks about 85% of the screen. For that alone I would forget about the potential Invisible Wars scenario.
