Calling all Youth/Youth Media Bloggers

Participate in the fourth Youth Media Blog-a-Thon

Topic: The November 4th Election

Building on the success of our first four virtual events, YO! Youth Outlook Multimedia and WireTap are proud to announce our fifth weeklong Youth Media Blog-a-Thon to kick off on Wednesday October 22nd.

We are calling all young bloggers (between the ages of 14-26) – along with any bloggers dedicated to writing about youth issues and youth media – to blog from October 22nd to October 29th about: the local and statewide elections taking place on November 4th.

Here are some ideas to address in your blog posts. Feel free to come up with your own:
• What local and/ national issues are you concerned about this election season (i.e. health, education, the economy)? Why?
• If California’s Prop.6 is passed by voters, the criminal justice system will be able to charge teens as young as 14-years-old as adults. What are your thoughts? How do you feel about the increase of funds towards stricter laws for young people, verses directing it towards education, housing, etc. for the youth?
• California’s Prop. 4, if passed, would prohibit a pregnant minor from having an abortion until 48 hours after their parent or guardian have been notified. How do you feel about the possible limitations of young women’s right to abortion? Do you think it is important for parents to have a say in the reproductive health of their children?
• Do you feel racism and sexism has played a big role in the election? Explain.
• Are you suffering from voter burn out this election season? Has it changed the way you look at the candidates? Why?
• If you were elected President – would/wouldn’t you do?
• Are you worried about the current state of the economy? What do you hope the elected President does to improve it once in office?

About: This is the fifth of a series of monthly Youth Media Blog-a-Thons that aims to virtually connect the youth media community by asking them to respond to one topic and to engage with each other. We hope that these monthly events will foster more dialogue between youth media leading to connectivity as media makers and as activists.

  1. My name is Paula and I’m an intern for Ms. magazine. I just came across your wonderful blog post about California Proposition 4 and wanted to let you know about a new video that has just been released from the Feminist Majority Foundation, the publisher of Ms.

This November, South Dakotans will vote on a draconian abortion ban – Initiated Measure 11. I’m sure you are very aware how dangerous Measure 11 is to women’s reproductive health and rights, as it aims to make it nearly impossible for a woman to obtain an abortion in South Dakota. With help from some celebrities like Camryn Manheim, Amy Brenneman and Sara Ramirez, this video urges people to vote NO on 11 this November on the South Dakota ballot. Check it out/spread it around:

And of course, please check out our Vote No on 4 video:

Please consider posting these videos onto your website so it is made available to your visitors. We must do all that we can to preserve women’s reproductive rights and let women know what’s at risk this election!

    Thanks for your consideration,
