Now that the election hurricane is at a level 5 and is sweeping violently across the country I figured that, although I cannot vote, I might as well pick who I would vote for, given the opportunity.

Obama seemed the obvious choice, after all the celebrity endorsements and endless hype from the constantly sought after youth vote. I watched both debates (including the VP debate), and I can say that I can’t really see either of them fixing the problems of this country.

I think that the most condemning flaw that humanity faces is naivety, and believing that any man can bring a collapsing country back to the limelight is only going to make things worse. We all are familiar with the old quote, “Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely” and what we have been doing since the birth of our country is giving absolute power.

Why is it that we continue to elect people who have mercilessly assassinated leaders of countries, simply because they refuse to provide us with slave labour. We elect leaders who fight for influence in vietnam when there is a genocide going on next door.

A year ago, I had more hope in our country because I thought there were a lot of people who shared my skepticism for our current process. But now, with a man who I see as just another politician heralded as a savior, I am not sure if people will ever be to pull themselves out of the dream world that is our democratic process. The face, it may change, but the words, they stay the same. The more they say it’s getting better the more ironic it is that it stays the same.
