YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
Loss is inevitable. That’s what they will tell you. Who you might wonder? Well, sane reasonable humans. It’s a natural part of life they will say. Though this may be true, it does not make losing things, or the absence of those things suck any less. I lost two very major things in my life’s in one sweeping day in November. My apartment, that I fought so hard for and to keep, only to lose it to happy couple—no doubt with the same ideals I did a year ago almost to the day I got the place. Losing that place feels much like selling a unicorn to be ground up into hamburger meat. There’s something about going from a queen sized bed in your own place to a twin in your parents living room that has a way of really make you feel like the your growing in to a infant. My boomerang like departure and return to my parents place makes me remember all the high hopes I had for myself and my apartment, upon release, but with the return comes baggage so heavy the boomerang is barely staying airborn. Last week I saw everything I owns stuffed in the back of a mini van, there’s no telling what that image will do to my psyche in the coming months. On to the other great tragedy of the day, the end of the TV show that brought youth 14 second clips of music videos and an ever revolving door of celebrities into the studio to chat about their new project. When I was younger I watched TRL everyday, I could guess every video on the count down from 10 to 1 everyday, Carson Daly was the coolest guy I ever saw—with painted finger nails. That show might be one of the reasons I wanted to be a VJ. It’s sad TRL had to go the way of Daria, YO! MTV Raps, Dead Bangers Ball, Clone High and Celebrity Death Match—we will miss you TRL! We will miss the awkward remote call-in conversations between VJ’s and artist, we will miss the squealing teens and the painted signs and faces; The guests caused in Time Square when they would wave out the window. I always wanted to be on TRL for one reason or another but it looks like I will never get the chance. Guess I have to settle for 106 and Park—but that’s no way as good R.I.P. TRL. |
