YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
On August 10, 2009 forty rioters rampaged and tore Paris apart in a violent protest. What people claim to have happened is that an 18-year-old was delivering pizza in a small suburb and the police was chasing him and as a result he crashed into a barrier. The man was killed instantly and that’s what caused the insane riot. Teens were upset with the police and cocktails were thrown over banisters at officials. One rioter took his rage to a whole new level by firing a handgun at police officers. The rioters set fire to twenty-nine cars and smashed windows at a high school store. Times have changed, you can’t just attack people in the community and expect them to role over and take it, police officers or not. People in the hood already said that there’s been tension between them and the police since 2005 anyway. So that gave them a reason to riot just on that note. Police want to feel in control but forget that Paris is not ran by the government, but by the citizens that live there. I think that the police need to calm down and let people breathe before they destroy the city completely. The same thing happened with Oscar grant, police take their jobs way to seriously and need to lighten up once in awhile. The police chief should be blamed for everything an officer does. I bet that’ll make the police calm down a lot more. If the police chief is facing charges because of his officers, he’ll make sure that they won’t harm a soul. Death is serious and there is already too many kids killing each other and the last thing we need is our police killing our children. Riots to me only inform the city of what’s going on and if they become violent, well, sometimes sacrifices must be made for the greater good. My heart goes out to his family and as far as the police goes, well fuck em’.—Sean Shavers comments |

Officals can attack citizens in America, especially if they are non-whites, illegal, or poor.
