Jazmyne Young, 20, responds to Chris Brown’s first television interview following his February assault on Rihanna.

Is it me, or was this interview a whole lot of nothing. Now, to be fair and give him the benefit of the doubt and knowing that there are some people who in the same situation would either back down completely and keep quiet, I was interested in hearing more in depth what exactly went down that night.

I don’t want to be overly judgmental to Chris in this situation because I do believe in redemption and I understand that people make mistakes. After watching though, I can see that the hype is in his willingness to talk about what happened but not in finding a thorough explanation of why.

Accompanied by his mom and lawyer, Chris failed to provide a concrete explanation of what happened that night in the car when he assaulted Rihanna, and to be fair it does seem appropriate to explain all of the details of what esculated to the assault, but we’ve all seen the picture and simply saying “I was so dissapointed in myself…that’s not me” everytime King pushed him to get real about what happened, isn’t enough.

I think it also raised a question of Rihanna’s accountability as a public figure vs. the general level of privacy awarded to most domestic assault victims. Chris Brown seems to paint a picture of an indifferent Rihanna. Whack! I know she isn’t required to discuss the situation, but I think instead of letting Chris Brown set the record straight it would be powerful for her to use this as a platform to address domestic abuse and really be a kick ass woman who tells it like it is aside from her cool image and high-profile friends.
