YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
I’ve never been a fan of cops and I know I’m not the only one. For most young people the police are kind of a nuisance and we have to deal with on a daily bases. Whether it is messing with skaters, kicking over beers, shutting down parties, shooting people they just don’t sit right with us as young people. Sometimes it seems like the protecting and serving they are supposed do ends up harassing and beating. Just recently a good friend of mine was pulled off of the bus on his was home, thrown on the ground and arrested. When he woke up the next morning in the drunk tank he realized his tooth was chipped. He thinks it chipped on the sidewalk when the cops dropped him. But he doesn’t remember much. Another friend of mine told me about a time a cop told him he would let him go if he said he liked to fuck men and wear dresses. How is behavior like that protecting anyone? I just saw a video of a cop harassing a group of skateboarders. One of the skaters called him a name then swiftly found him self snatched up and in cuffs. The officer threatened to snap his arm like a twig. I’ve been kicked off my skateboard by cops, I’ve been thrown in cuffs for “not complying” ask any young person in the city to tell you a horror story when it comes to the cops and I’m sure most people can tell you more than one. In the murder of the young man in Chicago the cops say they are having a problem finding the culprits because no one wants to talk to them. Well, of course they don’t. Not snitching isn’t about letting people get away with crimes it’s about not trusting the cops enough to say anything. The streets will govern them selves. They have for generations and will for generations to come. We still cant get the images of people being shot and beaten by cops out of our heads like a grainy video on an endless loop, every shot makes them less trustworthy. There was a story in the news this week about a cop who was drinking driving and killed a young woman. The cop got six hours to take a Breathalyzer and what do you know, when he did they found no alcohol in his system. Shit like that makes me sick. And always ALWAYS the department issues the same statement. “Officer ‘so and so’ has been reassigned and a investigation is under way.” It’s bullshit! I would call my homies before I call the cops any day and I don’t think im wrong for that. I understand that just because they wear the badge doesn’t mean they are any different from you and me, they are subject to bad days, bad calls and mistakes, they are only human but if you’re gonna take on that kind of responsibility you should be the kind of person that can handle it and iv met a lot of cops who can’t. I’m not gunna say fuck the police but will say fuck the bad ones. comments |

In response to Eming Piansay’s post, I have a serious problem with what you proport to be a factual and complete story. You’ve homed in on certain portions of a situation and don’t tell the whole thing. Maybe you’re leaving out that the skateboarders shouldn’t have been there, the party was too loud and rowdy and the guy on the bus elevated the situation.
By Steve · Posted on Oct 20, 06:57 AMAs far as the cop who had the DUI and killed Vionique Valnord….he’s done. The article linked to, explains the ENTIRE story with pleanty of facts to convict him. He won’t get away with it, cop or not. The NY DA is gonna give him the max, which he deserves.
