MUNI Violence Spikes in '09

From January to August there were 95 incidents on the 14-Line Muni bus in San Francisco. The bus’s route is one of the most heavily lines for San Francisco residents.

On November 13, a 24-year-old woman was stabbed in the morning on the J train MUNI system. The suspect is supposedly an African American male in his 30’s.

This is just another example of why Muni isn’t the safest way to travel. Knowing that there are a lot of incidents like these on the bus makes me want to keep a weapon on me.
I think the reason why so many altercations happen on the bus is because it’s a public place. Nine times out of 10 you might bump into someone you have problems with and potentially get into a fight.

I’ve had a few incidents on the bus myself. For instance, one early morning in HP (Hunters Point) I was on my way to school. I met up with my partners Black Black and Uso. We met up on Third Street. We were talking about what bus to get on to get to school. We decided to get on the 44 O’Shaughnessy to get to the 9 San Bruno. When the 44 came I saw somebody I had problems with the day before. We had an argument, my partners and me got on the bus.

As soon as he saw me he started talking s—t, I walked to the back of the bus, he stood up, I swung first, my fist connected and smacked his chin. He fell on the back seat. I kept punching him in the face; I was really beating his ass. I continued punching until somebody pulled me off. Some of the people were excited, some were scared, and some were mad cause they had to get off. People started yelling “beat his ass some more” while some were screaming to stop. The bus driver was saying, “Get the f—k off the bus”. After that I had to get off the bus. Everybody got off besides the dude whose ass I whooped and his friends.
He and his friends kept talking s—t out the windows of the bus, but the bus hadn’t driven off yet.

I guess the bus driver called the police. While that was happening, another friend of mine came to over to Third Street and I let him know what happened and he instantly started walking towards the bus. One of them n——s opened up the back door of the bus, and as soon as it opened my partner Young Thug swung and hit him in the face then Young Thug lost his balance and fell back as the door closed. The dudes on the bus tried again to open the door, that’s when Young Thug went up to the door again this time and he booted the closest person to the door. After that we didn’t want to stick around for the police to arrive so we left.

Knowing all the incidents that happen on Muni makes me feel the city is a hard place to grow up in. The bus wasn’t the best place to fight but I feel this dude I fought deserved his ass whipping because you need to watch what you say to people.
