YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
So we all know that New York Senator Hillary Clinton is running in the presidential election in 2008. And if she wins, she’ll become the first female president of the country. But what I’m curious about is what will happen to Bill Clinton. First off, will he be called First Man or First Gentleman? And what role will he play as his wife rules the country?
Will he be the one to give us that traditional tour of Christmas at the White House that America tunes in for every year? Imagine him, casually strolling in the living room by the Christmas tree, sipping some hot chocolate by the fireplace.
In the office, I doubt Bill will be able to be of much help to Hillary. Hillary seems like an independent women, and with the pressure of being the first female president, she’ll most likely turn to a better advisor when in need of counseling. But hey, maybe Bill will be able to tell her which seat is comfiest in the Oval Room or who makes the best coffee.
All in all, I think Bill is going to feel pretty useless if Hillary gets elected to serve four years in office. He must already feel like he’s under Hillary’s shadow, with her already so big in politics. He’ll now be the one brushing his teeth furiously before a speech so he can flash a dazzling smile and nod and look like the supportive husband during Hillary’s speeches.
Simply put, if Hillary gets elected president, things won’t be too great for Bill. Of course he’ll be happy for his wife like he’s supposed to be, but that’s all that will be required from him in his new job – just smile and look supportive. And don’t forget the occasional nod here and there.
