The New Drew 2.0

It is amazing what anti-age cream, and a timeless string of popularity can do to the complexion of a 75 year-old mystery detective. The Nancy Drew series, originally created in 1930 by Edward Stratemeyer, has been authored under the alias of the name Carole Keene that several writers have contributed to.

Like any successful, popular storyline, some random movie studio is bound to squeeze as much money out of it as humanly possible. On June 15, 2007 Nancy Drew is coming to theatres. Even after looking at the trailer I’m still not entirely sure what to think. Though I’m always happy to see positive, self-sufficient female archetypes on the big screen, compared to other falsely advertised “girl-kick-butt” movies that in reality are more flesh friendly than any sort of empowerment. The trailer itself is a classic example of what every girl aspires to be, strong, smart, clever and of course cute enough to get noticed. But since there isn’t anyone who embodies that sort of aspect, it would be much more refreshing to see a girl on screen that is flawed and well rounded in equal measure. Which is a little more believable and entertaining than someone who is two inches away from being able to walk on water.
