I feel bad for Sanjaya Malakar . So many people are against his presence in the Top 6 of American Idol, there are even videos posted on of people going on a hunger strike until he is voted off.

Now, I’m no singer. I don’t even sing in the shower because I know how terrible I am, and I am more than happy to spare people from experiencing such a show. Nonetheless, I don’t think Sanjaya is a terrible singer. Honestly, I think tomorrow I’ll call in and cast him a vote. Why? Because I’m South Asian, and we need someone South Asian to represent us in the music industry. We’ve got Russell Peters in the comedy section, M. Night Shyamalan has got the directors seat filled, and Kal Penn is out there making movies. So I’m pretty sure a lot of Sanjaya’s votes come from the South Asians in the U.S., who want him to sing to represent the community in the music industry.

So basically, I think we should all stop hating on Sanjaya. If you don’t like him, that’s your prerogative. But he’s only 17, and I think the pressure he’s getting from those who don’t like him is getting pretty hefty. The pressure is probably only going to make his singing worse, so for those who don’t like his voice, you’re not really solving the problem. – Maahum Chaudhry
