Not Quite Jurassic Park

If there’s one debate that has no chance of ending any time soon it is whether or not humans, the Earth, and life as we know it were products of creationism, or an act of evolutionism. Obviously, there are arguments for and against both these ideas. Whether man came from a big old hairy thing dripping in drool, or a concoction from the earliest form of mad scientist, but less emphasis on the ‘mad’ and ‘science’ part.

However, according to a study done by NEWSWEEK at the end of last month found that 91% of Americans believe that God exists, and 87% do not accept the evolution as fact. I think I hear a bunch of scientists’ heads exploding.

I suppose if natural history museums illustrate the creation of man through the ages and into the human form then it would be fair to give believers of creationism a similar area of expression. A Creation Museum, to be exact. The museum, located in Kentucky, focuses mainly on the events that take place in the Book of Genesis. The museum provides an overview of the events in the Bible in a visual presentation that is probably equivalent to Jurassic Park, minus the re-creation of the flesh and blood man-eating dinosaurs.

I’m not sure whether it is better to be skeptical about the scientific basis of how things came to be, or to believe that everything was created for a specific reason with the use of divine religious powers. But I do wonder, whether it makes people feel better in believing that everything was pre-ordained from the get-go. If so, does creationism foster a sense of entitlement because you were created ‘as-is’ without having to evolve from any other being? Personally, I find it a wee-bit self-centered.

  1. Well I think that this is a good idea. For so many years it has only been one was that the scientist have been looking at the begining of time, and all this museum is doing is bring another look onto how the earth started. Some people might call it relgion but there is alot of science behind it too.

  2. How anyone believes a bronze age creation myth versus a tried and tested theory that forms the backbone of modern biology is beyond my comprehension. Wake up! Snakes cannot talk. Angels aren’t real. Dinosaurs and people did not co-exist 6000 years ago. The Earth has been dated to 4.5 billion years. Scientists aren’t just inventing these numbers

  3. scientists are not right and I’m sorry if this makes you upset but there is no way dna could come from non-living matter. Dna is only created by another strand of dna!

  4. I can’t believe such a large percentage of americans are so stupid, and Shelby, I’m sorry if this makes you upset but if God didn’t create all the living things in the world like the Bible erroneously says, what makes you think he created the first stand of DNA?

  5. It’s the same old problem that keeps coming up anyway..
On one side, you’ve got people (most of the world) who accept and believe the concept of evolution as being what scientifically makes most sense.
On the other hand, a whopping percentage of americans seem to be unable to accept living in a world defined by modern physical and historical views, whereby all matter is observable and understandable through science. As far as I am aware the answers we draw from science help us to define and study the physical world in which we live. Also science is based on the ability to consistently question one’s findings. It is very difficult to assume that an accepted idea is wrong. Take for example every major scientific discovery made in history.
Science is not trying to kill god, it is simply trying to understand phenomena of life and existence (and in the case of a spiritual person, ‘his’ work). Why else would we be here if not to subjectively experience and witness this cosmos of ours.
The truth is, no faith or science can prove nor disprove a supreme origin. That is why faith remains a personal belief in something that has no tangible evidence. Hopefully people will use the tools and knowledge given to them to intelligently observe the world.

  6. I feel so sorry for each of you that protest or have something negative to say about this museum. I think you have allowed stupidity to get the better of you. The Bible says that in the last days there would only be a few people left on earth that would join him in glory and the rest would fall into the pits of hell and everyone of you who has stuck your neck out there and said something against His word will surely make their final resting destination in the firey pits of hell. I hope you like heat because once you get there, there is no second chance. The next time you receive a burn, and it will be my earnest prayer that each of you receive a burn very, very soon and feel the pain from the burn that this will come to your mind. You might want to think about what you say or allow satan to make you believe before it becomes too late for you and while you are thinking, consider the fact that the Bible is the only book that has remained for thousands of years. God clearly states that heaven and earth will pass away (with you in it if you’re not careful) but His word will stand. Please, what have you got to loose? If you are right in your beliefs (whatever they are) then you won’t be disappointed in the end result when you expire from this world. But if I am right and there is a heaven and a hell just like the Bible says wouldn’t you rather be on the side of heaven than on the side of eternal fire and damnation? It’s your eternity, forget what your friends and associates think they can’t die for you. Grow half a brain and think for yourself. You’re the only one who can. You don’t know how long you have to decide so you had better think quick. May God have mercy on you all.
