YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
[ filed under: youth philosophy ] They’re young. When the army recruiters can’t get people over twenty to join the armed forces the next best thing is to go after the much younger batch of teenagers. According to this story the military have taken up tactics to lure a teens, as young as 13, into joining the military. The question then arises whether or not teens as young as that are mentally developed enough to be “enlisted” into the armed forces organization. Obviously, this severe commentary. When it comes to army recruiters actively going after teenagers around the age of 13-years-old, it begs to wonder who is really the mentally underdeveloped people in the room. When I was in the JROTC in high school one of the very first things my instructors told us was that they would not actively try to recruit us, instead if any of us were at all interested in recruiting we could come and talk to them. There was never this “join or else…” sort of agenda. However, when it comes to actively recruiting young people into the armed forces should be off-limits. That shouldn’t even require a second thought. The age limit for the army should be the same age limit for drinking. If the government doesn’t think your old enough to pick up a bottle of whiskey, then you shouldn’t be old enough to get deployed to a war torn region. Common sense. Learn it. Love it. Live in. |
