YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
Researchers have made it official. Boys like blue and girls like pink. But like any generalization, it is based on buckets and buckets of assumptions. After showing a group of women and men a series of colored shapes it was determined that women gravitated towards the pinkish, reddish colors while the men chose the darker colors such as blue. Now, I don’t understand how they came up with the rest of this conclusion but the researchers believe females like pinkish colors because back when we were all cave people, women’s fascination with the red side of the color spectrum may have to do with the reddish fruits they ate. Okay. For a minute let’s say this study has two feet to stand on. To make the assumption that the color preference goes back as far as our very, very distant relatives—doesn’t leave room for much hardcore evidence. Unless we somehow get our hands on a time machine there isn’t much way of proving or disproving that. However, I think the color preference would be easily explained, and even proven. From the moment we are born we are cast into color groups. Pink or blue baby blankets; pink or blue outfits. I don’t think it is something that is from century’s old reasoning, but rather society ideals that get rammed down our throats before we even know the concept of ‘choice’. By the way, I’m a girl and I like blue. |
