[ filed under: youth entertainment ] Think of it as Survivor for tweens, mixed with Lord of the Flies. Or just think of a bunch of parents willing to hand their children to CBS in order to win money. Either way, that’s the new reality show that was filmed by CBS in New Mexico this year between April and May. For 40 days the kids, located on a movie set in the desert area near Santa Fe, created their own little government under the idea that there were “no parents, no rules”. If this doesn’t reek of a lawsuit in the making then I’m giving my first born to Rumpelstiltskin. The reason I say that is because there’s been some talk that the show may have violated child labor laws because of how long these kids were “working”, not mention a few parents have complained that their kids were injured while on set. I find it hard to believe these parents, or the producers were aiming for these kids to have a good ole time. Why does everything have to end with a $? The basis of the entire show is a bunch of kids that appear to be unsupervised for the most part, doing “chores” that most adults may not want their kids doing at such a young age. I mean, the fact that one kid was reportedly got splashed in the face with cooking grease, and several others accidentally drank bleach, goes on to prove that not only were these kids not being properly supervised, but the 40 days they spent being filmed consisted of the only parental supervision being the camera crews and a handful of producers who were probably too concerned about getting the perfect scene recorded compared to whether or not the kids were sporting a 100-degree fever. Of course, I’m not saying they would ignore a 100-degree fever – but it is a little obvious where their priorities are. |
