YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
[ filed under: entertainment ] This weekend I hit my local movie theater and saw 30 Days of Night; a horror movie adapted from a graphic novel written by Steve Niles. It is about a group of nomadic flesh eating vampires with very stylish haircuts that reek havoc on a small town in Alaska where it happens to be dark for 30 days straight. I didn’t think it was too bad. Josh Hartnett wasn’t completely lifeless like he can be in movies where he has a tendency to fall flat in, such as his appearance in 40 days and 40 nights. I thought the 30 days plot was lacking and the characters were ill developed, after all it is a vampire movie. I wasn’t expecting the Godfather or anything. But for seeing it as it was, without analyzing it too much, it wasn’t too bad. There was a lot of blood; a lot of gore; and some decent scares and semi impressive special effects here and there. I would recommend it but I wouldn’t expect too much out of it. If you are hoping for a graphic novel adaptation in the vain of Sin City or 300 this movie will be sure to disappoint. I am though bit tired of seeing the same old vampire plot recycled over and over. Mostly with lots of undead, few humans, lots of blasphemy, little clothing and blah, blah, blah! Actually, I have taken it upon myself to write a new vampire script! Something totally out of the box. It will take the black eyeliner, studded belt, Hot Topic Goth crowd by storm. Vampire vanguard! Is what all the smart critics will call it when they give it all thumbs up. I haven’t written the script yet or thought up a plot. To tell you the truth I have only started thinking about this in the short time I have been writing this blog but believe me friends, it will be great! Oh, and PG-13 of course. comments |

I liked the graphic novel way more than the actual film. This is a major flop but hey it happens. What I would like to know is what’s up with people not talking about Marquette Williams’ new film UNSPEAKABLE. If you have not seen it, get on it! The music alone is creepier than, thanks to composer Adrian Bailey and the story line has so many damn twists it had me and my friend talking about for three days after we saw. Dark, very dark, but an excellent thriller from a filmmaker with a great cinematic eye. There will be some online screenings soon at www.cinema216.com or http://www.myspace.com/cinema216
