Citywide WiFi

Once again, the issue of a citywide WiFi service is being brought back to the table. Well, only if you think that it even left. According to the San Francisco Chronicle :

“The city Wi-Fi movement is noticeably slowing down on some levels, but leaders say it’s progressing with a refined sense of purpose and a clearer perspective on the challenges that face these projects.”

It’s pretty obvious that most San Franciscans would want citywide WiFi- and why not? People can connect to the Internet from their phones to check when the next MUNI bus is arriving or students can use the Internet any time anywhere to do research or homework. And, it would help connect more people to others around the world because more people would have access to a medium that would allow such a thing. It’s a win-win situation for everyone.

So, we’re here to argue that plans to bring free citywide Internet should continue to progress instead of just being forgotten as they have in the past few months. Having citywide WiFi is a big step for San Francisco, but it is definitely one with a lot of support to back it up, as it has the support of not only most city residents, but Mayor Gavin Newsome as well. There are many obstacles to overcome to get citywide Internet, which is why we should focus on the matter so we can get Internet as soon as possible.
