YO!
YO! is a collection of short pieces by the writers at Youth Outlook!
When you’re a politician the past is something that can have a habit of coming back to haunt you. Not so much like the Ghost of Christmas Past, though I admit that would be pretty awesome. It was reported on Saturday that in 1992 Republican White House hopeful Mike Huckabee had endorsed the plan to isolate AIDS patients from the general population. He also suggested that celebrities fund AIDS research rather than government agencies. Huckabee jumped to defend his comments and stated that at that time the U.S. was still in the processing of learning about AIDS. However, it had also been proven at the time that AIDS could not be spread through everyday contact. Huckabee has been avid in his stance that marriage should be between a man and woman. In some cases, he has citied gay marriage as a possible reason for the end of civilization. I’m not sure if Huckabee realizes that America is not an entirely conservative bunch. We’ve had one conservative guy in the White House who turned the United States giant question mark – if you plan on advertising your beliefs in hopes of getting elected by a general population you should really consider that at least half of the U.S. population might not like what’s coming out of your mouth. Even though Huckabee’s comments were in the past it makes me wonder what his current feelings towards homosexuals could amount to: Another call for isolation? Criminal consequences for gays – and who knows what else? On the flip side, any publicity is good publicity – especially if no one has a clue who you are. |
