Baby-sitting Iowa

The one thing I hate about elections is that they are held on weekdays. I would be more than happy to run over to my local polling spot on the weekend and throw some votes around. During the last San Francisco election for Mayor I ran down to City Hall after work and just barely had enough time before for polls closed.

That day I really felt for people to work all day and don’t have the time to vote. Which made me understand why the voting turn out is so low these days—there just isn’t enough time in the day.

I guess that spawned that idea for Hillary Clinton campaign to get scores of volunteers to babysit in order for partners to have time to get to the polls and vote today in Iowa.

I seriously hope these White House hungry cannidates are thinking the possibility of re-election for if one of them gets scooted into office. Whoever becomes the newly elected President should consider changing the day of all general elections for the cities, states and country, so all elections would take place on a weekend. Because if politicians utilized their popularity enough they could get scores more people if elections weren’t so awkwardly placed during the work week. I guess this is just a tradition that has been going on for so long no one has seen fit to change it—however—I think some traditions are fit to be broken.
